Adapteva Samples 64-Core Epiphany IV Chip

(TOMSITPRO): Chip designer Adapteva announced that it has begun sampling its Epiphany IV processor with 64 cores. The chip is produced in 28 nm at Globalfoundries. Designed as a co-processor for Intel- and ARM-based processors, the Epiphany IV architecture supports up to 4,096 cores on a single chip, each equipped with a 800 MHz RISC core, local memory and a local framework. The 10 mm2, 64-core version, recently upgraded from a 700 MHz design, increases its performance from 88 to 100 GFlops (single precision) while consuming just 2 watts. The idle power of the chip is 80 milliwatts.FULL ARTICLE
